Genjitsu Games

Old News!

The sequel to A Flock of Foes, A Mob of Mayhem, is still in the works, and I should have another announcement to make about that in a month or two.

4th Edition D&D sounds promising so far, and Genjitsu's products will most likely be updated as appropriate.

Finally I have a new musing on the subject of Craft skills in Privateer Press' amazing Iron Kingdoms setting.

As some of you may have heard recently, Metablades Expanded Edition and its artwork will shortly be the focus of Commissionathlon 2006! The book is being prepared for print-on-demand distribution with over 10 new pieces of artwork, and over the next two weeks, you will be able to watch our fabulous artist produce these illustrations, live, via webcam, and comment via live web chat. Those of you who might be interested in meeting me will also get the chance as I will be stopping by the chat room from time to time. After the Metablades illustrations are done, Obsidian will continue taking short commission requests via chat for a few more days.

If you already bought Metablades or don't want to wait for the PoD edition, fear not; the PDF download will also be updated with this latest and greatest artwork, and existing purchasers will get a free update download!.

March 2nd, 2006—'Tis the season...to appreciate your game master! March Fo(u)rth for GMs Day is back again and Genjitsu is pleased to offer its excellent products in two great discount bundles! The Character Options Pack compiles the magic combat tools of Metablades and the racial transformation options of Shaping the Self, and the Gamemaster Savers Pack is full of new flavorful creatures and items created with familiar rules in A Flock of Foes and Blades of Purpose!

Both of these bundle deals will remain available through March 10th.

November 3rd, 2005—Well, Blades of Purpose is available now at RPGNow's new indie site, The Edge, and samples of the artwork are available for your viewing enticement. This is also the first of Genjitsu's products that you can buy in a handy print-on-demand form.

On a side note, have to say I absolutely adore the Ravnica artwork from Magic's latest expansion.

August 15th, 2005—Wow! Not only is "Monte Cook Presents: The Year's Best d20" available almost a month early, but Metablades Expanded Edition is a contributor! It was a thrill to receive this news from Malhavoc and I've been bursting with the itch to tell since April. You can get this handpicked collection through Drive-Thru RPG, including some spells and magic items by yours truly, complete with Monte's commentary on the year's releases in general.

In light of this great news, we will be launching a print-on-demand edition of Metablades, enhanced with bonus artwork and a new cover, by the end of September. Look for more information here on the front page.

Blades of Purpose should be done quite soon as well.

July 20th, 2005—Congratulations to all the 2005 Ennie nominees! Genjitsu did not make the nomination this year but I am pleased to see that we would have been in august company indeed if we had. However, we will have a great announcement to make regarding recognition for one of our products in the near future.

On another happy note for independent publishing, Michael Poe, creator of the webcomic Exploitation Now! and the spectacular online manga Errant Story has recently stepped out of his hosting relationship with KeenSpot and started hosting Errant Story independently. Mr. Poe is a wonderful artist and a highly skilled writer and it's wonderful to see him succeeding.

On a less perfect note, it's been necessary to push back Blades of Purpose a little while. It'll be available as soon as we can get it finished, probably within two months.

June 10th, 2005—As promised, the preliminary info on Blades of Purpose is now available; whet your appetite upon it and check back in the next couple of weeks for sneak previews of the artwork.

As far as what we'll be doing next, there will be a lull in new books for a little while, giving Nevin the breathing room to find a better job. Anyone who knows of a game- or computer-related opening in the greater Boston area is encouraged to pass it along. However, expect some further updates to existing projects, especially print-on-demand releases.

April 1st, 2005—A Flock of Foes has gotten off to a decent start and will soon be available as a print product. To celebrate this success, we offer for free today Golems & Goldfish, an April Rules' Day supplement for this fine bestiary.

Wonder what we're doing next? More info on Blades of Purpose coming soon!

February 25th, 2005—A Flock of Foes is coming very soon; we're presently aiming for RPGNow's March 4th event. You can now preview the incredible artwork for this book here at our site.

There have also been some minor changes to the site's layout and appearance; we hope that this makes things more readable and appealing. This also means that a small space for third-party advertising is now available; please contact us if you have any interest in this space.

December 9th, 2004—Metablades Expanded Edition is now available on RPGNow! You can check out the art gallery or read a short sample before you buy it.

In other news, A Flock of Foes is now expected to debut in early 2005.

November 24th, 2004 — Metablades Expanded Edition is nearly here! As a sneak preview, clips of the professional artwork obtained for this revised release are being displayed in the Samples section.

October 29th, 2004 — In honor of Halloween, two sample undead from A Flock of Foes are available in the Samples section.

We're closing in on the rerelease of Metablades, which will update the psionics content for the expanded psionics rules.

Jul. 14th, 2004 — I have to apologize to anyone who actualy reads this site for the lack of regular updates. Kingdom Hearts ate my life for a little while, plus I just started running an Eberron campaign, which has kept me busy—and I'm still trying to keep up work on A Flock of Foes (it's going to be good), All Things Furry and Familiar, and the revision of Metablades. I'm hoping to release all of these products in September or October, more or less simultaneously.

In the mean time, I have a new musing for you, on the subject of multiclassing restrictions.

Apr. 5th, 2004 - We have two new products to announce. All Things Furry and Familiar will expand the selection of real-world animals available to d20 gamers (including stats for use as familiars), and A Flock of Foes will explore the options available for monster creation using standard templates. Both products will be released simultaneously, but the exact date is still TBA.

The $3 deal on Metablades is no longer available, but look for a great deal on an update once the Expanded Psionics Handbook is available!

Mar. 15th, 2004 - It's kind of embarrassing to realize that I haven't done a Musings column in a month, so there's a new discussion of variant staves posted.

The World Inside is being postponed. I've been running out of steam for a while and will continue working on it when I need a break from whatever other project I'm doing.

Feb. 23rd, 2004 - Shaping the Self has been doing very well, and a web enhancement is now available in the Samples section, detailing variant levels for subraces like tallfellow halflings and wild elves. Check it out!

Feb. 4th, 2004 - Shaping the Self is now available on RPGNow, and a demo is available in the Samples section!!! Moreover, if you haven't already picked up Metablades, you can get it for half price right now by buying Shaping the Self! Just purchase our newest release (without buying Metablades), and the download instructions should include a link to purchase Metablades separately for only $3!

Jan. 14th, 2004 - As promised last week, I bring a complete expanded version of the monk class!

We're just wrapping up the writing work on Shaping the Self. Look for it during the last week in January.

Jan. 9th, 2004 - Happy New Year, Everybody!! Genjitsu will be ringing in the new year shortly ourselves with the late-January release of Shaping the Self. We also have a new release to announce: The World Insidewill bring micronets and megablasters to your modern roleplaying game sometime in the second quarter of 2004! Stay tuned for more information about this great material!

For those of you hungry for something right now, I have also delivered the promised clarification of turning and rebuking rules in the Musings section!

Dec. 3rd, 2003 - Right now, updates have been slowed down to give me more time to get Shaping the Self set up by the release date.

On another note, there is a review of Metablades available! Read Glenn Dean's mostly positive comments on d20zines.

Nov. 4th, 2003 - A little hiccup with Apache delayed my update a day. My last discussion on the subject of feats (for the time being) is now available. Check next time for more information on the upcoming Shaping the Self!

Oct. 20th, 2003 - Updates have been taking a little longer than I thought. Check for updates to this site every other Monday. I hope to graduate to weekly updates in a few months.

On the positive side, I have not one, but two web anhancements for Metablades to offer you this week. The first is the promised Artifacts of Martial Magic, and the second offers free conversions of eight Metablades spells for players of Monte Cook's Arcana Unearthed! Check them out in the Samples section.

My second round of Musings is also available. I'll be talking about feats and possible ways to clarify them for a couple more sessions.

Oct. 3rd, 2003 - Well, Metablades is just starting to get off the ground, and I'm looking to have a review done soon. The web enhancment was delayed slightly, but will come up within a week - it just won't be as nicely formatted as I really wanted it to be.

As promised, my first column is available now under the "Musings" section, discussing what I love and hate about feats and how they're grouped, from a designer's point of view.

Sept. 21, 2003 - Genjitsu Gaming is having its grand opening right now, which means very little, except that our first product, Metablades: Warriors of Mind and Magic is now available on RPGNow! Please check it out and feel free to send me feedback; if you want to sample before buying, the table of contents and a page from chapter 5, "Fabulous Items" are available for your examination.

A web enhancement for Metablades will be available soon, no later than October 10th. Also look back for more info on our next offering, Shaping the Self: A Guide to Racial Advancement.
